IPTV on iPhone and iPad runs through a player app from the App Store. IBO Player Pro and Smarters Player Lite both support iPhone and iPad on iOS or iPadOS 15.6 and later. Install one, paste in the Xtream details or M3U link from your subscription email, and you are watching. Copying and pasting on a phone makes this the quickest device in the house to set up.
This guide also covers mobile data, AirPlay to the TV and a few settings that make long viewing sessions easier. For the big-screen side of an Apple household, see our guide to IPTV on Apple TV.
Choosing a Player for IPTV iPhone Viewing
IBO Player Pro
IBO Player Pro’s App Store listing covers iPhone and iPad. It is the player we recommend and activate. On first launch it shows a MAC address and device key, which you send to us when you order. The phone or tablet needs its own activation, at 12 for 1 Year or 25 for Lifetime, separate from your plan.
Smarters Player Lite
The developer of IPTV Smarters Pro publishes Smarters Player Lite for Apple devices. It is free, with an optional premium purchase in the app, and its listing describes M3U and JSON playlist support. See our Smarters guide for Android and other platforms for how it compares with the Android app.
Search the App Store for the exact name and check the developer before tapping Get. Similar names from other publishers are common.
Signing In on a Phone
- Open your subscription email in Mail or your email app.
- Press and hold the M3U link, or each Xtream detail, and choose Copy.
- Open the player and choose the playlist or Xtream login option.
- Paste each field and check for a stray space at the end.
- Save and let the lists load before you start browsing.
Our hub article on Xtream IPTV vs M3U explains which login gives tidier menus, and our IBO Player Pro setup guide walks through each screen of that app.
IPTV iPad Viewing Around the House
An iPad makes a good second TV in the kitchen, the workshop or a child’s room. A few habits help:
- Set Auto-Lock to a longer time, or Never, under Display and Brightness while you watch, then set it back.
- Keep the iPad plugged in for long games.
- Use the audio track menu in the player for French or English commentary where a channel offers both.
- Turn on Screen Time limits if younger viewers use it; our parental controls guide covers the player side.
For the player’s own locks, see our guide to IBO Player Pro parental controls, and for language menus, our article on audio tracks and subtitles.
IPTV on iPad vs iPhone: Which Is Better?
Both run the same players, so the difference is the screen and how you hold it. An iPad is better for a full game or a film, propped on a stand with sound from a speaker. An iPhone is better for checking a score, following a game on the move or keeping an eye on the news. Many households set up both and use whichever is nearest.
If you use IBO Player Pro on both, each one needs an activation. If you only want one paid activation, pick the device you watch on most and use a free player on the other.
Picture-in-Picture and Background Play
Some players let a channel keep playing in a small window while you use other apps, using the picture-in-picture feature in iOS and iPadOS. Whether it works depends on the player and its current version. If your player supports it, swiping up to go home while a channel is playing usually shrinks the video into a corner. If nothing happens, the player does not offer it.
Watching on Mobile Data
Video uses data quickly, and Canadian mobile plans vary a lot in what they include. Before watching a whole game on the bus or at the arena:
- Check how much data your plan includes and what happens when you reach the limit.
- Pick an HD or standard channel rather than 4K on a small screen.
- Turn on Low Data Mode for your mobile plan, in the Cellular or Mobile Data section of Settings, to reduce background use by other apps.
- Look at the data used by the player in that same section after your first long session, so you know what to expect.

Sending a Channel to the TV with AirPlay
To show the phone screen on a TV, open Control Centre, tap Screen Mirroring and choose the TV. AirPlay works with Apple TV, with many Roku models on Roku OS 9.4 or later, and with many recent smart TVs that list AirPlay support. The phone needs to stay on and nearby, and the picture travels over your Wi-Fi.
For a TV you watch every evening, a player installed on the TV or a stick is steadier. Roku owners can read our guide to IPTV on Roku in Canada for the full set of options.
Headphones and Speakers
Phone speakers are fine for the news but thin for a game. AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones pair from the Bluetooth section of Settings, and AirPlay can send sound to a compatible speaker while the picture stays on the phone. A small delay between sound and picture over Bluetooth is normal on some headphones; if it bothers you, wired headphones remove it.
Keeping Playback Smooth on iOS
- Close apps you are not using if the phone is older or warm.
- Keep some storage free; a full phone slows apps down.
- Update iOS and the player when updates arrive.
- On home Wi-Fi, sit within reach of the router or a mesh point, not two floors away.
When the App Will Not Load Channels
On a phone, most loading problems come from the connection or a typing slip rather than the app. Work through these in order:
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see whether one connection is the problem.
- Copy the login details from the email again, rather than editing what you typed.
- Try the other login type: Xtream details if you used the M3U link, or the reverse.
- Close the player from the app switcher and open it again.
- If nothing loads on either connection, message us with a screenshot of the error.
Our guide to IBO Player Pro loading problems covers errors specific to that app.
IPTV on iPhone and Your Login Security
Phones get lent, lost and passed to children. Use a passcode, avoid sending your login over group chats, and remember that a subscription covers one active stream, so a borrowed phone watching at a friend’s place can interrupt your TV at home. Our guide to keeping login details safe has more.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which iOS version do I need?
Both IBO Player Pro and Smarters Player Lite list iOS and iPadOS 15.6 or later.
Can I watch on my iPhone and TV at the same time?
Not on one subscription. It covers one active stream at a time.
Does AirPlay work with my Samsung or LG TV?
Many recent models support AirPlay. Look for AirPlay in the TV’s settings or connection menu.
Do I need a separate activation for my iPad?
Yes, for IBO Player Pro. Each device needs its own activation.
Why does the picture go soft on mobile data?
Mobile signal changes as you move, and the stream can struggle when it drops. Pick a lower-quality version of the channel if one is offered, or wait for Wi-Fi.
